whats the best way to start learning as a hobby?

i dont have any malicious intent, just generally interested. i find it exciting that people can create keygens and crack software or websites. 

my first thought was to try and crack winrar as per my previous post. i figured it would be easiest way to learn. or am i wrong and the activation type is old?

any guidance on books to read or tools to look into would be appreciated!
