Locked Learning Pen Testing

Howdy.

So what's been the most useful resource for people regarding learning about pen testing?

I recently bought some causes from a website following a recommendation from people working as pen testers. The courses have been bloody lacklustre so far.

For one.....the guy had copied verbatim the descriptions of the tools in Kali Linux from their website. When he demoed the tools, he would READ OUT THE HELP TEXT FOR THE COMMAND option by option. It was truly painful. So in otherwords, the entire course was stuff you could find out for yourself going to the Kali Linux website or reading the damn help text! I complained and got a refund.

So am looking for better resources than that!!
